20 minute stops at crosswalks when driving
6208
Whenever I have the misfortune of driving through campus when a class lets out, I inevitably end up waiting for long periods of time at cross walks, usually turning a 15 minute drive into a 40-50 minute drive. It only takes a few considerate pedestrians a few moments to help alleviate this problem.

There seems to be some confusion because some people have told me that I don't provide a solution to the problem. Obviously we can't implement any sort of enforceable policy, but rather we can make this problem known, so pedestrians might be more likely to let a car or two go when foot traffic is heavy. There was a similar initiative last year with "Catch the Wave" that was very successful.

Yeah, you're definitely extrapolating the actual time it takes to get through campus while driving, even during busy pedestrian traffic. No way in hell is there an extra 25 to 35 minutes added on to whatever commute you might make because on-campus pedestrian traffic is too dense. But, if you’re serious about the added time to your commute, you probably have no legs, since you’re obviously not using the accelerator to move. Re-evaluate your idea. It’s mad flawed, bro.

Virginia Tech should build an underground walking system for pedestrians. This would prevent any sort of delay for people that decide to drive on the drillfield during peak hours.

Great ideas, guys... how about a traffic light sort of thing that only activates when there is a car present? Most of the day, pedestrians having the right-of-way isn't a big deal, and I do like that about being on this college campus, that you're not always about to get run over when you crosS the street(ahem NOVA!).

Great ideas. Let's all set up a time to meet. I will also include facilities people to see how feasible this is...send me an e-mail at brandoncarroll@vt.edu and we can figure this out.
